令和7年度ALTの先生方からのメッセージ
本町の子どもたちの学びを支援するALT（外国語指導助手）の先生から、素敵なメッセージが届きました。『広報りふ3月号』でも紹介しておりますが、ホームページではメッセージの全文を紹介いたします。
ジョセフ先生からのメッセージ
Joseph Stephen Hodapp

【メッセージ原文】
Snow. I love snow. It’s quiet and beautiful. I can play outside in the snow or stay inside and drink hot cocoa.
I rarely see snow in Texas. It snows less than once a year. All the schools shut down if there is even the possibility of snow or ice. I’m so happy that I can experience snow here in Rifu. I want to try skiing for the first time in my life here in Japan.
Yet, I realize that the snow is bittersweet. It heralds the end of the school year in Japan and a time of graduations and goodbyes.
It’s an odd feeling for me. It’s barely March. In America, the school year ends in late May when the weather is hotter and we can look forward to jumping into the pool. But right now, I still wake up shivering under my blanket in the morning. There is still so much to experience in Japan after only a year.
I have a lot of wonderful memories of this school year. Sports day and presentation were some of the highlight events for me, but every day was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed the lessons with my students, and it makes me happy to see how much they’ve grown, both in their English ability and as individuals. I am proud of my students.
To all the graduates, congratulations and good luck in your journey in life! To everyone else, the continuing students, teachers, and people in Rifu, I hope to see you the next school year! May it be an awesome year! Thank you so much!

雪。雪が大好きです。静かで美しい。外で雪遊びをすることも、家の中でホットココアを飲むこともできます。
テキサスでは雪を見ることはめったにありません。年に一度も雪が降らないのです。雪や氷が少しでも降ると、すべての学校が休校になります。利府で雪を体験できることがとても嬉しいです。日本で生まれて初めてスキーを体験してみたいです。
でも、雪はほろ苦いものでもあります。日本では、雪は学年の終わり、卒業と別れの季節を告げるものです。
不思議な気持ちです。まだ3月なのに。アメリカでは5月下旬に学年が終わり、その頃にはもっと暖かくなり、プールに飛び込むのが楽しみになります。でも今は、朝、毛布にくるまって震えながら目覚めます。まだ1年しか経っていないのに、日本ではまだたくさんのことを経験できます。
今年度は素晴らしい思い出がたくさんあります。運動会と発表会は私にとってハイライトとなる出来事もありましたが、毎日が素晴らしい経験でした。生徒たちとの授業は楽しく、英語力だけでなく人間的にも大きく成長していく姿を見るのが本当に嬉しいです。生徒たちを誇りに思います。
卒業生の皆さん、おめでとうございます。これからの人生でのご活躍をお祈りしています。在校生の皆さん、先生方、そして利府町の皆様、来年度もお会いできるのを楽しみにしています！素晴らしい一年になりますように！本当にありがとうございました！

As this school year is coming to an end, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for an unforgettable year of teaching and learning in Japan. Teaching in Japan has been a deeply enriching experience; one shaped by the warmth of the students, the dedication of fellow teachers, and the support of the school community. Every lesson, event and everyday interaction offered opportunities to learn not only as an educator, but also as an individual. From lively classroom interaction to Japan’s general cultural celebrations, each moment contributed to a year filled with growth, challenge and joy. I am especially thankful to the students; whose curiosity, effort and kindness made everyday meaningful. Their willingness to try, to learn and to share their culture created an environment where teaching felt truly rewarding. I am also grateful to my colleagues and staff, whose guidance, kindness, cooperation and encouragement made this journey both smooth and inspiring. Living and teaching in Japan has provided valuable insights into education, culture and community. The lessons learned here, both inside and outside the classroom, will remain with me long after this year ends. Thank you Rifu for welcoming me, supporting me and allowing me to be part of this remarkable experience and I now have a new love of pears! Thank you for the memories and looking forward to making many more!

As this school year comes to a close, I'm filled with gratitude for all the moments. From greetings in the hallway, to lively English activities, festivals, sports days, and quiet moments of trying something new in class, every school day brought a memory I'll treasure. To the students, thank you for your courage to speak English and your curiosity. Watching you grow (even in small ways) has been a joy. To my JTEs, teachers and staff, thank you for your kindness and support. I learned so much from working alongside you. I'm thankful and I'll carry these memories forward with a full heart.
